Description
Zink:
Zinc is found in all organs and tissues of the body. The highest concentration of zinc is found in human bones, liver, kidney, muscles and skin. The adult human body contains approximately 2 to 3 grams of zinc. Approximately 0.1% of the total zinc in the body is replaced daily.
The existence of zinc is necessary for the functioning of more than 200 metalloenzymes, including carbonic anhydrase, carboxypeptidase A, alcohol dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase and RNA polymerase. Enzymes that require zinc for their activity are known in all enzyme classes. Also, this mineral is effective in maintaining the structure of nucleic acids, proteins and cell membranes. Physiological actions that depend on zinc include: Cell growth and division, sexual maturity and reproduction, night vision and darkness, wound healing, host immunity, sense of taste and olfactory function.
